Capo Rizzuto / Italy (UCH and MPA)

MPA “Capo Rizzuto” is located on East coast of Calabria (Southern Italy). It covers an area of 14,721 hectares and extends for 40 km of coast. It is a stretch of MED Sea characterized by a richness of flora and fauna typical of this marine environment. In ancient times, this area was an important point of reference for ships on the trade route linking Greece-Asia Minor to Italy across the Ionian Sea. For this reason, the seabed, in some cases at low depth, presents several wrecks of large cargo ships dating back to Greek and Roman period.
